Sailboat Racing
The Grosse Point Boat Club sponsors a series of sailboat races held on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, weather and wind permitting. The “wallpaper” for this webpage is from a photo of one of our Wednesday races.
Races are started right from the Neff Park breakwater. It’s great fun to come down and watch, even if you are not a sailor or if you are as they say “between boats”. If you are interested in crewing, talk to one of the captains; there’s often a skipper who is shorthanded.
In the fall, the club sponsors a “Family Regatta” in which the participants on each boat must be family members. It’s a great family activity.
Just about any sailboat can compete. Racing is done under the PHRF handicap system, which balances out the difference between boats, so they can compete on an equal footing.
Racing is open to all club members so if you are not a member you will have to join, which is easy to do and pretty inexpensive.
